Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Why are there No Handyman Categories?

Answer: Although Many states License Handymen, we prefer to have specialist on our website, too many people claim to be proficient in multiple unrelated areas, but anytime you match a handyman to a specialist in their particular field, the handyman will often fall short. Would you expect a person who claims to paint and be a great electrician to do a better job than a person who does nothing but paint all day?

Question: Why are there No Pressure wash services!?
Answer: There are. They would be under their related category, for example; Paint, Masonry, Roofing or cleaning services. Click directly on any of these categories and you will find Pressure washing as a specialty service. Same applies to Caulking/ epoxies this is a specialty found under a general category like Paint or Masonry.

Question: Why offer 50 zip codes & whole counties?
Answer: Some counties have very few zip codes as little as 2, while other counties Like Los Angeles County can have as many as 300 zip codes, we allow contractors to choose the plan that works best for their areas. All our plans have the ability to exclude zip codes in a whole county and to set up local zip codes for small jobs while zip codes that a further away are reserved for only larger projects, this way contractors won’t have to drive across town for a service call. Easy to use tools & maps are available to our members and the set up takes only seconds and can be changed as many time as they like or left alone.

Question: why No Industrial services?
Answer: Commercial Contractors usually deal in industrial applications, so if you have a Industrial project select a commercial contractor, you’ll see, they will be glad to help.

Question: What about a rating system?
Answer: Rating systems are often manipulated unfairly, and is usually one sided, either by a customer who is upset unjustly or by the contractor themselves giving their own service a great review, do you know how many contractors give themselves a great review on Angie’s list? Sorry … you’re better off going to a third party review system like the BBB that is really dedicated to resolving complaints.

Question: How many contractors should I call for my kitchen remodel?

Answer: Typically 3 different contractors is a great way to find the right company for your job, but remember it’s not all about the lowest price, some companies include all possible additional cost that may come up during construction whereas others will include only the basic job and charge extra for “unforeseeable” issues to arise after the job has been started. Read the contracts and insist that the contractor explain exactly what is included and what is not, as well as what is likely to give them trouble.

Question: What makes Servicetrades.com so different?
Answer: We have an automatic filtering system that will get you a local contractor based on Industry, size of project, location, trade & specialty group no other system offers these filters automatically instantly … our only competition is either a traditional directory that just lists companies or a Lead generating business who acts as middle men and sells your information to as many contractors as possible to generate the most income. We are a hybrid service with the best aspects of both services, our contractor members pay a small flat monthly fee of $5.95 for their own website like profile page that funnels more traffic without hosting or advertising fees.

Question: How long has Servicetrades.com been around?

Answer: We were near the end of beta stage testing when we decided to launch officially on 08/08/08, and since we have added multiple features and will continue to improve, always.
